The Macky Sall Foundation for Peace, Dialogue and Development (MSF-P2D) builds on the unique legacy and experience of President Macky Sall to advance an “Emergent Africa” as a stable, peaceful and sustainably developed continent for the benefit of Africa’s people and the world. It is with the direct commitment and engagement of President Macky Sall that MSF-P2D aims to contribute to the pacification and sustainable development of Africa and to promote the peaceful coexistence of cultures and peoples.
The foundation is based on the presidential legacy of Macky Sall at the head of a country which has always focused on peace, stability and consultation as the foundations of living together. In over a decade serving at the helm of one of Africa’s most stable and prosperous, democratic nations, and through his tenure chairing the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States and the African Union Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government on Education, Science and Technology, among others, President Macky Sall emerged as a key global stateman advancing Africa in cooperation with the world.
Building on a forthcoming “Emergent Africa” Manifesto, the foundation will focus its engagements and activities on the following three critical focus sectors:
- Peace (Conflict, Dialogue, Stability): Peace and stability are indispensable to securing Africa’s future, its sustainable development and global standing. Internal or interstate conflicts, political instability, the spread of extremism, violence and terrorism remain major challenges on the continent. Dialogue, regional and global diplomacy, in addition to other peaceful means continue to prove their value in maintaining and promoting peace in Africa. Space exists to reinforce informal channels of peace and dialogue at the leadership level in Africa towards consolidating and advancing peace on the continent.
- People (Education, Health & Empowerment): With Africa the world’s youngest continent, education and capacity building for upcoming generations present high-potential pathways for progress towards the vision of a Emergent Africa and overcoming the jobs crisis facing Africa’s youth. Africa remains a global hotspot for infectious disease and malnutrition but has shown significant progress through immunization, communication and capacity that needs to be accelerated if Africa is to fully deliver on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Promoting and reinforcing excellence and opportunities among Africa’s talented younger generations, and providing avenues for the vocies and viewpoints of youth to be heard, can help unlock new potential and accelerate efforts to advance a healthy, peaceful and sustainably developed continent.
- Development (Resilience, Sustainability, Financing): Africa is home to many of the poorest groups on the planet, including the majority of the least developed countries. It is also most vulnerable of all regions to the climate crisis. Although an economic growth powerhouse, Africa has more nations than any region burdened by debt. Securing equitable financing of development, including through Bretton Woods reform, can be win-win for the international community as it seeks to secure long-term interests. Underpinning strong development leadership and planning to speed up implementation of proven development solutions, and fair and effective financing is key to the promotion of resilience, responsible resource use and the energy transition.
